Little Rann Of Kutch (LRK) and Velavdar

AbhiShri | | Thursday, January 13th, 2011

100 km west of Ahmedabad lies one of the most interesting terrains in India. Vast stretches of plain land – devoid of any plantation , and salt covered in some areas, water bodies in between defines this arid land – known as Little Rann of Kutch. This very land is world’s last major home to Indian Wild Ass’s  and hence, the area is rightly protected as  “Wild Ass Sanctuary”. Apart from many resident and migratory birds, the area is also a home to mammals like Indian Wolf, Desert Fox, Nilgai  etc.

I, along with 9 fellow birders,  got an opportunity to make a quick visit to this wonderful land (combined with Black buck sanctuary of Velavdar)  and do some birding. We could record at least 129 bird species (+ few unidentified) and 7 types of mammals.  Such places, though might seem dry and arid, have their own beauty. The terrain is just unbeatable … it’s a beautiful piece of land spread over hundreds of acres of area … it was quite an experience  … and it’s my pleasure to share it with you all!

  10. When photos tell the viewer the story of the place, when the photos make viewer to take to the place just by watching them, when the photos emphasize that the place is a must visit, the purpose of photography is served….. 🙂 🙂 🙂
